Phone — Android
Fixes for common Android phone problems: storage filling up, a downloaded file you cannot find, and notifications that never arrive. Steps follow Google's official Android and Files help.
- Phone storage is fullYour Android phone has run out of room, so photos, downloads and app updates start failing. The careful approach begins with seeing what is using the space before deleting anything.
- I can't find a file I downloadedThe download seemed to finish, but the file is not where you expected it. On Android, downloads can sit in the Files app's Downloads folder, in the browser's own download list, or inside the app that downloaded them.
- An app's notifications are not arrivingOne app has gone quiet: its messages or alerts only appear when you open it, or arrive very late. The cause is usually one of a few settings — the app's notification switch, Do Not Disturb, or battery optimisation.
Computer & Browser
Help with Google Chrome and Windows file basics: downloads that fail or vanish, files that open in the wrong app, and browser settings that have changed without you asking. Steps follow Google's and Microsoft's official help.
- A download fails, stalls, or disappears in ChromeA file you tried to download in Chrome on your computer failed, got stuck, or seemed to vanish after finishing. Chrome's own Downloads page records what actually happened to it.
- A file opens in the wrong app, or won't open at allWindows opens each type of file with one chosen app. If that choice is wrong, every file of that type opens in the wrong place — and the choice can be changed for one file or for the whole file type.
- Chrome settings are messed upYour homepage, search engine or startup pages changed without you choosing it — often because an app or extension changed them. Chrome has a built-in reset that restores these settings while keeping your bookmarks, history and passwords.
PDF & Files
Understand a file before you change it: PDFs that will not print or print the wrong size, files that are too large or in the wrong format, and photos or videos that will not open on another device.
- A PDF won't print, or prints the wrong sizeThe printer ignores your PDF, prints it tiny or cropped, or produces garbled pages — while other documents may print fine. Adobe's own troubleshooting starts with the printer, then works through the reader's print options.
- A file is too large to send, or the format isn't acceptedA website, form or email refuses your file because of its size or its format. Before changing anything, check the two facts that matter: how big the file actually is, and what format it really is.
- A photo or video won't open or play on another deviceA photo or video that works on your phone refuses to open on a computer, TV or another phone. The usual reason is its format — the container named by its extension, and the codec packed inside it — and understanding that difference tells you whether a conversion will help.
